Private Jet to Thailand: Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui and the UHNW Circuit

24 May 2025·6 min read

Thailand consistently ranks among the top five global destinations for UHNW travellers, combining cultural richness (Bangkok's Grand Palace, Chiang Mai's temple circuit, the ancient city of Sukhothai), extraordinary natural beauty (the Andaman coast, the Gulf of Thailand islands, the northern highlands), a wellness and spa culture that is the reference standard globally, and a gastronomic tradition that operates at every level from street hawker to Michelin-starred. Private aviation unlocks Thailand's full circuit: Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi, BKK) to Chiang Mai (CNX), Phuket (HKT), and Koh Samui (USM) are all less than two hours by private jet, transforming what would be a series of difficult domestic connections into a seamless multi-destination programme.

Bangkok: The UHNW Urban Base

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) handles the majority of private jet traffic for Thailand; Don Mueang (DMK) is an alternative for domestic positioning. The FBO at Suvarnabhumi is operated by Bangkok Airways Ground Services with full VIP terminal facilities. Bangkok's UHNW accommodation circuit centres on the Sukhumvit-Silom-Sathorn corridor: the Capella Bangkok (riverside, intimate scale, outstanding food and beverage), the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok (the historic standard, since 1879), the Peninsula Bangkok (the contemporary luxury reference), and the Rosewood Bangkok in the financial district. For contemporary culture, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, the MOCA Museum, and the gallery cluster in the Charoen Krung neighbourhood (the original Farang quarter) provide context.

Bangkok gastronomy operates at the highest level: Gaggan (progressive Indian-Thai, consistently ranked among the world's best restaurants), Sorn (Michelin two-star southern Thai cuisine), Le Normandie (the French fine dining institution since 1958), and the night market circuit at Or Tor Kor (the premium fresh market) define the range. FFGR Jets recommends three nights in Bangkok minimum: one day for the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the Chao Phraya river circuit; one day for Chatuchak Weekend Market and the Sukhumvit luxury shopping district; one evening for the rooftop bar circuit (Vertigo at the Banyan Tree, the Sky Bar at Lebua).

Phuket and the Andaman Coast

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is the primary gateway for the Andaman coast circuit: Phuket itself (the six-star Amanpuri reference, the Surin Beach area for contemporary luxury, the Phang Nga Bay for limestone karst island exploration), the nearby islands of Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai (six times less touristic than Phuket proper), and the Krabi and Railay Beach area (80 kilometres south, accessible by private speedboat from Ao Nang). The Amanpuri — one of the original Aman resorts, opened in 1988, set on Pansea Beach — remains the global standard for understated luxury; Trisara, Point Yamu by Como, and the Rosewood Phuket are the contemporary equivalents.

Phang Nga Bay — memorably featured in the James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun" — is the defining private boat experience of the Phuket visit: the limestone karst islands (Khao Phing Kan, Ko Tapu, the Panyi floating village) are best accessed by private longtail boat or speedboat charter. FFGR Jets coordinates full Andaman programmes: private jet to Phuket, resort check-in and three beach nights, private speedboat to Phang Nga (full day), positioning to Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe by speedboat or light aircraft for the more remote islands.

Koh Samui and the Gulf Islands

Koh Samui Airport (USM) is unusual in being privately owned by Bangkok Airways; it accepts private jets on prior arrangement and provides a distinctive tropical experience with an open-air terminal surrounded by palm trees. Koh Samui is the gateway to the Gulf island circuit: Samui itself (the Four Seasons, the Conrad, the InterContinental), Koh Phangan (Full Moon Party in its commercial incarnation, but also Haad Thong Lang for secluded beaches and several boutique wellness retreats), and Koh Tao (the best diving in the Gulf). The Six Senses Samui and the Samui Four Seasons are the reference addresses.

For the most exclusive island experience in the Gulf, Koh Kood (accessed from Trat Airport, a light aircraft sector from Bangkok) provides a nearly undeveloped island with three or four boutique properties (the Soneva Kiri among them), extraordinary beaches, and the sense of a destination that remains outside the mainstream UHNW circuit. Soneva Kiri is one of the finest resort properties in Southeast Asia: overwater villas, an extraordinary tree restaurant, and a film room in a jungle treehouse define the experience.

Chiang Mai and the Northern Circuit

Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) is a one-hour private jet sector from Bangkok. The city — Thailand's cultural capital in the north, with 300 temples within the ancient walled city — offers the most authentic Thai cultural experience available at UHNW travel standards. The Four Seasons Chiang Mai at Mae Rim (rice terrace setting, extraordinary spa) and the Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai (a reconstructed Lanna Thai village at extraordinary scale, 35 acres of rice fields and pavilions) are the reference addresses. The Chiang Mai cooking school circuit is the finest in Thailand; the Sunday Walking Street in the old city offers genuine craft products at non-tourist prices.

The Golden Triangle — where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Mekong and Ruak rivers — is 220 kilometres north of Chiang Mai (3-hour drive or private charter flight to the Chiang Rai area). The Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is the reference address, offering elephant interaction, Mekong boat cruises, and views across three countries. For the complete Northern Thailand circuit, FFGR Jets recommends: Bangkok (3 nights), Chiang Mai (2 nights), Golden Triangle (1 night), and a repositioning flight to Phuket for the coastal component.
