Empty Legs

An empty leg is a private jet that would otherwise fly without passengers to reach its next departure point. When the timing and route suit you, it opens access to that aircraft at a reduced fare — subject to availability. FFGR Jets arranges these repositioning flights through a network of certified operators; we do not operate our own fleet.

What is an empty leg?

Private jets rarely stay where they land. After dropping passengers, an aircraft often has to reposition — fly onward, empty, to its next booking or back to base. That one-way segment with no passengers on board is the “empty leg” (also called a repositioning or ferry flight).

Because the operator is moving the aircraft regardless, offering that segment to a passenger recovers part of the cost. The result is access to a private cabin at a fare reduced against a full charter — while the aircraft, crew and on-board standard remain exactly the same.

The trade-off is flexibility. An empty leg exists only because of the operator’s own schedule, so its date, its departure and its destination are essentially fixed. You fit the flight; the flight does not adapt to you.

Who is it for?

Empty legs reward flexibility. They suit travellers who can adapt their plans to a set corridor and a set window rather than dictate them — and who value discretion and a private cabin over a fixed itinerary.

Flexible travellers who can move their dates to match an aircraft that is already repositioning.

Journeys along busy private-aviation corridors, where repositioning flights appear most often.

Guests who want the private-terminal experience and cabin comfort without committing to a full round-trip charter.

Advantages & limits

What you gain
  • A fare reduced against a full charter — subject to availability.
  • The same aircraft, crew and cabin as a standard charter.
  • Access to private terminals and the discretion of business aviation.
  • A way to fly private on corridors you already travel.
What to accept
  • The date, departure and destination are set by the operator’s repositioning need.
  • Availability is variable and often confirmed at short notice.
  • A flight can change or be withdrawn if the underlying charter shifts.
  • Only minor adjustments — such as a nearby airport in the same city — may be possible.

How FFGR Jets gives you access

FFGR Jets acts as your broker. We monitor a network of certified operators, match repositioning flights to the corridors and dates you care about, and handle the arrangement end to end. We do not own aircraft — which lets us stay impartial and source from the whole network rather than a single fleet.

01

Tell us your flexibility

Share the corridor you travel, the window you can move within, and your passenger count. The more flexible the request, the more matches we can surface.

02

We watch the network

We monitor repositioning movements across our operator network and alert you when an aircraft is due to fly your way, empty.

03

We arrange the flight

When a match appears, we confirm terms with the operator and handle the booking. Fares are reduced against a full charter, subject to availability.

Corridors where empty legs appear most often
Paris → Nice

One of Europe’s busiest private corridors, with constant movement between the capital and the Riviera — a frequent source of repositioning flights.

London → Geneva

Steady business and leisure traffic between two financial and Alpine gateways keeps aircraft repositioning along this axis.

Geneva → Courchevel

Seasonal Alpine demand to the Courchevel altiport generates regular short repositioning legs into and out of the mountains.

Looking for a specific corridor?

Empty legs appear and disappear with the operators’ own schedules. Tell us your flexibility — corridor, dates, passenger count — and we will let you know as soon as a matching repositioning flight comes up. Timing depends on the network, so availability is never guaranteed in advance.

Frequently asked questions

What is an empty leg flight?

An empty leg — also called a repositioning or ferry flight — is a private jet that has to fly without passengers to reach its next departure point or return to base. Offering that segment to a passenger gives access to a private cabin at a fare reduced against a full charter, subject to availability. FFGR Jets arranges these flights through certified operators and does not operate its own fleet.

Who are empty legs suited to?

They suit flexible travellers who can adapt to a fixed date, departure and destination rather than set their own. If your plans can flex to match an aircraft that is already repositioning along your corridor, an empty leg can be an efficient way to fly private.

What are the limitations of an empty leg?

The date, departure and destination are set by the operator’s repositioning need, not by you. Availability is variable and often confirmed at short notice, and a flight can change or be withdrawn if the underlying charter shifts. Only minor adjustments, such as a nearby airport in the same city, may be possible.

How does FFGR Jets give me access to empty legs?

We act as your broker: we monitor a network of certified operators and alert you when a repositioning flight matches the corridor and dates you care about, then arrange the booking on your behalf. Because we do not own aircraft, we can source from across the network rather than a single fleet.

How much does an empty leg cost?

There is no fixed price. Fares are reduced relative to a full charter, but they vary with the aircraft, the corridor and the timing, and are confirmed with the operator, subject to availability. We share indicative terms only once a specific repositioning flight is matched to your request.

Are empty legs as safe as a full charter?

Yes. It is the same aircraft, the same crew and operators certified to recognised aviation safety standards. The reduced fare reflects the repositioning nature of the flight, not any reduction in safety or service.
