Private Jet to the World's Most Exclusive Ski Resorts

26 May 2026·10 min read

The world's premier ski resorts share a common geography: they sit at altitude (1,600-2,400 metres), accessible by road through mountain passes or by regional airport that commercial airlines serve infrequently and with limited capacity. For UHNW clients whose ski calendar is defined by powder days, school holidays, and specific weeks at specific resorts, private jet access to the Alps, the Rockies, and Patagonia eliminates the planning constraints imposed by commercial aviation schedules. A private jet to Courchevel means landing at Courchevel's own mountain airstrip — the steepest commercial piste in Europe at 18.5% gradient — and being on the ski slope within 25 minutes of the aircraft door opening. This guide covers the key ski resort airport pairs, the aircraft requirements for mountain operations, and the FFGR Jets ski charter programme.

The Alps: Courchevel, Verbier, Gstaad, St. Moritz

The Four Valleys ski domain in the French Alps — Courchevel 1850, Méribel, Les Menuires, Val Thorens — is served by Courchevel Airport (LFLJ), an 18.5% gradient runway at 2,008 metres altitude that requires specific type ratings and simulator training for pilots. Only twin-engine turboprops are certified for Courchevel operations (Pilatus PC-12, Beechcraft King Air, Cessna Caravan — none of the jet aircraft in FFGR Jets' network), meaning the access model is private jet to Geneva (LSGG) or Chambéry (LFLB) plus helicopter transfer to Courchevel 1850's helipad. The helicopter transfer takes 30-40 minutes from Geneva and 12-15 minutes from Chambéry, covering a distance of 120 km (Geneva) or 60 km (Chambéry). FFGR Jets operates this model as standard for Courchevel, coordinating the jet sector and helicopter from a single operations contact.

Verbier, in the Swiss canton of Valais, is served by Sion Airport (LSGS) — 45 minutes by helicopter — or by Geneva (LSGG) with a 1h15 helicopter transfer. Sion has limited handling infrastructure but accepts jets up to the Challenger 350 category; Geneva provides better FBO facilities and a longer operational window. Gstaad, the Bernese Oberland resort favoured by the Swiss and international financial community, is served by Bern-Belp Airport (LSZB, 60 km by car) or by Saanen-Gstaad Airport (LSGK) — a 1,700-metre runway in the resort valley that accepts small turboprops and requires a 12-hour PPR (prior permission required). St. Moritz in the Engadin Valley is served by Samedan Airport (LSZS), a 1,800-metre strip at 1,707 metres altitude — the highest commercial airport in the Alps — which accepts aircraft up to the Falcon 50/900 category in summer (reduced performance margins in winter).

North America: Aspen, Jackson Hole, Vail

Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (KASE) at 2,438 metres is the definitive luxury ski airport: located 3 km from downtown Aspen and 8 minutes from the base of Aspen Mountain, it accepts jets up to the Challenger 350 category in winter conditions (larger aircraft face weight-restricted runways in cold, dense-altitude conditions). The airport's single runway and high-altitude location create a specific risk: diversions to Eagle County Airport (KEGE, 45 miles) or Denver (KDEN, 4 hours by road) are common in winter weather. FFGR Jets builds alternate planning into Aspen charters as a matter of standard procedure: ground transport from KEGE is pre-arranged for every Aspen charter.

Jackson Hole Airport (KJAC), located inside Grand Teton National Park, is the only commercial airport in the United States that operates within a national park boundary. The proximity to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort — the tram to Rendezvous Mountain is 15 minutes from the terminal — makes this the most convenient major ski resort connection in North America. Jackson Hole's terrain — the longest continuous vertical descent in the US at 1,262 metres, with expert runs including Corbet's Couloir — attracts the most technically capable ski clientele. The FBO at KJAC (Million Air) has dedicated ski storage and boot drying facilities. Vail/Eagle County Airport (KEGE) at 1,965 metres serves both Vail and Beaver Creek, handling aircraft up to the Global Express category; the 25-minute road transfer to Vail village is included in FFGR Jets' ground arrangement.

Patagonia: Las Leñas and Bariloche

The Southern Hemisphere ski season (July-September) enables year-round elite ski travel for UHNW clients who pursue powder across both hemispheres. Argentina's ski destinations — Las Leñas in Mendoza province, Cerro Catedral at Bariloche — represent some of the most consistent and uncrowded skiing in the world, with Las Leñas recording average snowfall of 600 cm annually and terrain comparable to Verbier's La Chaux face. Bariloche's San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (SAZS) accepts private jets up to the Gulfstream G550 category; Las Leñas is served by Mendoza Airport (SAME), 3h30 by road, or by charter helicopter from Mendoza's city airport to the resort base.

The Patagonia ski circuit — Las Leñas (7 nights), Bariloche (5 nights), and a closing night at the Llao Llao Hotel — involves a Gulfstream G550 or Bombardier Global 6000 positioning from Buenos Aires (EZE) or Santiago (SCL). FFGR Jets designs this circuit to include non-ski elements that complement the terrain: fly fishing on the Chimehuin River near Junín de los Andes, a private gaucho asado in the Andean foothills, and a cellar dinner at a Mendoza winery before departure. The Patagonia ski charter is designed for clients who have completed the European and North American circuits and want the combination of world-class skiing, uncrowded mountains, and South American cultural richness.
