Private Jet to Geneva and Switzerland: The UHNW Aviation Hub of Europe

20 May 2026·7 min read

Geneva is not simply a destination — it is a hub. More private jet movements per capita flow through Geneva International Airport than any other European airport, and for reasons that compound: banking and private wealth management, the United Nations and 250+ international organisations, the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Art Basel satellite fair in June, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in January, and the proximity to Gstaad, Verbier and Zermatt for the winter sports season. Switzerland as a whole is structured around the rhythm of private aviation.

Geneva Airport: Europe's Premier Private Aviation Hub

Geneva International Airport (GVA / LSGG) handles more private jet movements than any FBO in continental Europe, with the possible exception of Le Bourget. The airport hosts multiple FBOs — TAG Aviation and Jet Aviation are the primary operators — offering seamless arrival protocols that match or exceed Le Bourget's standard. Drive-on-tarmac access, Swiss efficiency in customs processing, and a discreet operating culture make Geneva the reference airport for UHNW travel.

The Swiss customs and immigration process for non-EU arrivals is managed at the FBO level with a speed that other European hubs cannot match. A principal arriving from Dubai, New York or Singapore clears customs in minutes, with a Rolls-Royce from the FFGR ground fleet waiting 30 metres from the aircraft. For principals based in France, the proximity to Geneva — 180km from Paris by helicopter — makes it a natural overflow option for occasions when Le Bourget is slot-congested.

Davos: The World Economic Forum and the January Circuit

The World Economic Forum in late January transforms Davos into the most concentrated gathering of global leadership outside of the United Nations. Private aviation is the only practical way to participate in the full programme — commercial connections to Davos do not exist at the required level of flexibility, and the surrounding road network is paralysed by the event. FFGR coordinates Davos transfers through the Zurich corridor, with helicopter transfer from Zurich FBO to the Davos helipad in 25 minutes.

FFGR secures Zurich (ZRH) and Samedan (SMV) slots for the WEF period 60 days in advance. Samedan Airport, at 1,707 metres altitude, serves the Engadin valley and accepts mid-size jets in good winter conditions — it is the closest fixed-wing airport to Davos and St Moritz. For heavy jets, Zurich remains the standard entry point. FFGR's WEF coordination includes multi-leg itinerary management for principals who combine Davos with Gstaad or St Moritz in the same January window.

Gstaad, Verbier and Zermatt: Alpine Private Aviation

Switzerland's mountain resorts are served by a combination of fixed-wing airports and helicopter transfer networks that FFGR has mapped in detail. Gstaad is served by Saanen Airport (LSGK), a small mountain airstrip accepting light jets in dry conditions — a genuinely extraordinary arrival experience, with the runway flanked by the Bernese Oberland peaks. For larger aircraft, Geneva remains the base and helicopter transfer completes the journey in 45 minutes.

Verbier is served by Sion Airport (SIR / LSGS) for fixed-wing arrivals — midsize jets in good conditions — or by helicopter from Geneva in 40 minutes. Zermatt itself is car-free and helicopter-free above the town; arrivals are coordinated through Sion or Geneva with onward transfer by the Zermatt shuttle train or helicopter to the Furi helipad. FFGR manages the full transfer chain and provides advance weather briefings for mountain operations where conditions can change within the booking window.

Basel, Zurich and the Art and Finance Circuit

Basel Art Fair (Art Basel) in June is the second most important date in the private aviation calendar after the Monaco Grand Prix, in terms of concentration of UHNW movements. Basel-Mulhouse Airport (BSL/MLH/EAP) serves the fair, with additional capacity at Zurich Kloten and helicopter operations from Geneva. FFGR holds art-fair slots across all three airports and coordinates arrival and departure for collectors, gallery principals and institutional clients with collections logistics — including art transport protocols for works acquired during the fair.

Zurich's position as Europe's largest private banking centre generates consistent aviation demand independent of the event calendar. FFGR maintains a regular Geneva–Zurich helicopter corridor and coordinates multi-city Swiss itineraries that combine private banking meetings in Zurich with board meetings in Geneva, FIM events in Basel and social engagements in Gstaad or Verbier — often within a 72-hour window.
